Weng lab hosts three repeated science outreach sessions this summer as part of the Whitehead CampBio Program geared towards middle school students. The theme of this year’s activities is “Biology in Ecology”. The students will collect plants, insects, soil and water samples from Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary, and analyze these samples in the lab. See photos of these fun activities here.
Maria Vicent Allende, a sophomore from Williams College, joined the Weng lab as a summer intern through the Williams-Whitehead Summer Program to carry out research related to bioluminescence. Welcome!
Congratulations to Anastassia for winning the Merck Prize from the MIT Department of Biology for outstanding research and academic performance in biophysical or bioinfomatics sciences!
Jing-Ke Weng is one of the fifteen young scientists in the chemical and biological sciences named the 2015 Searle Scholars.
Congratulations to Mike for winning the best oral presentation award, Tim and Olesya for winning the best poster presentation award in the graduate student category, and Anastassia for winning the best poster presentation award in the undergraduate student category at 2015 Northeast Section Meeting of the American Society of Plant Biologists (NEASPB) at Northeastern University on April 11 – 12! Well done!
Warm welcome to Bastien Christ, who recently received his Ph.D. degree from Universität Zürich and joined us as a postdoctoral fellow.
Jing-Ke Weng was recently interviewed by Nature to discuss about time management as a new PI setting up a new lab. Here is the final article “Seize the moment” by Jeffrey Perkel.
Anastassia strikes again! Anastassia made a short lab video for BioTeach geared towards K-12 students, demonstrating photosynthesis. We hope the younger generation is going to fall in love with plant sciences!
